It didn’t start as much. A random phone call with no-one on the other end, assuming a wrong number or some such.
it happened a few times so upgraded the call to telecommerce folks.. which raised the anger levels a little. Imagine my surprise when eventually a shy voice said “Hello?”..
It was a cute voice. A little quieter than expected but it was nice none the less. There was a slight lilt to it, definitely southern but something else.. a little regional accent from somewhere I couldn’t quite place.
‘Hello there, are you the one whose been ringing me for the last few weeks?’ I asked. It was only fair to let her have a chance to join in a conversation. ‘Y..Y.. Yes. Is this.. Mark?’
Oh well, wrong number after all. ‘No, I’m sorry, it’s not. are you sure you have the right number?’
‘I thought I did.’ She read out my number with no mistakes.
‘Did someone give that to you? I’m sorry if you’ve been given the wrong one’ I apologised. ‘I wish I could help more’.
‘It’s ok, I wish you could to’ and she hung up. Strange call but enough to make me feel sorry for her. She didn’t sound happy, like she needed help in some way, and it left me a little down. I know what it can feel like to have a problem and no way of helping yourself and, not wanting to burden anyone else with the problem, trying to deal with it.
I hoped she’d call back, but wasn’t expecting the call. I took myself to the shower and cleaned up. Relaxing and calming myself for a good nights sleep.
Ideas:
randomly calls at night
distressed call
can’t explain the situation – panicked, confused
searching for information, gets a name, starts poking around on the web (Facebook, myspace etc)
Finds a selection of people
Targets a few, new panicked phone call… not the girl..
Who is mark?
